Amstrad profits slide at half-time

Electronics concern Amstrad has seen interim pre-tax profits fall from 1.7 million pounds sterling to 25,000 pounds sterling, but has announced that it will break even at the full year for the first time in four years. Its shares have risen, with analysts reacting positively to plans for future growth to come mainly from high-margin, new-concept products. New developments will include a range of home entertainment and satellite products.

Jarovslav Drobny

Tennis and ice hockey player Jaroslaw Drobny was born in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1921. He was a leading goalscorer for the Czechoslovak national ice hockey team. He first played at Wimbledon in 1938, and won the men's singles title in 1954.
