An age-old question of discrimination
Article Abstract:
'Age Barriers at Work,' a survey of employment prospects for older people discovered that 231 of 541 local councils, which offer equal opportunities in most respects, operate ageist restrictions. Advertisements for mature workers were for low status jobs such as car park attendants. Line managers had negative opinions about employing older people. Women were considered old sooner than men and experienced more difficulties because of career breaks. Training should be offered to older workers, managers should have age awareness training and job advertisements should not have age barriers.

Two mums and dads are a set of parents too many
Article Abstract:
Dr Alexina McWhinnie, senior research fellow in the Department of Social Work at the University of Dundee, Scotland, reviewed studies of adopted adults which show that they accept their adoptive parents as their 'real' parents. The only ones who mentioned double identities were those whose adoption had been kept secret. Studies show that most adopted people do not feel second-class. Dr McWhinnie also feels that inter-country adoption works well in 80% of cases. Children adopt their new country and culture as their positive experiences overcome any discrimination.
