The case of Chartered Trust Plc vs Davis has highlighted the responsibilities of landlords in a multiple letting situation. It was found by the judge that the landlord had a duty to ensure that the claimant was able to carry on her business without nuisance from a neighbouring business in the same shopping arcade. The landlord was guilty of making the claimant's premises less fit for the purpose for which they were let.

On Apr 18 1992 Nigel Short from Atherton, Lancashire plays Garry Kasparov of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the semi-finals of the World Chess Championship in Linares, Spain. He will play 10 games against Anatoly Karpov, the former world champion. Nigel Short has been a chess prodigy since he was eight and became the youngest International Master at 16. Short is now ranked fourth in the world.
