An ending or a new beginning? The diary of Harold Evans, 69 and a half
Article Abstract:
The announcement that Harold (Harry) Evans is to leave his position as president and publisher of Random House has attracted mixed reactions. Many book editors have expressed relief, having felt that his ways of attracting leading authors were risky and brought the publishing industry into disrepute. He was a great self-publicist, and gave Random House a rather negative public image. This company is now determined to cut costs and assist in reviving the fortunes of the publishing industry. Evans is to become associated with tabloid newspaper Daily News.
