Anatomy of a 'Titanic feud.'
Article Abstract:
Relations between UK Chancellor Gordon Brown and former government minister Peter Mandelson became strained as a result of the contest for the leadership of the Labour party that followed the death of John Smith. However, Mandelson believed that this relationship could be repaired until Sep 1994, when Brown accused him of siding with Tony Blair, who had by then become Labour party leader. The conflict between Brown and Mandelson did not become public until May 1996, but had been worrying Blair for some time before then.

Hail the great moderniser
Article Abstract:
Peter Mandelson was fiercely loyal to Labour party leader Neil Kinnock in the period after the 1987 election, regarding loyalty to Kinnock as loyalty to the party. He regarded Kinnock as having the best chance of pushing through changes that would make the Labour party electable again. When Mandelson was appointed Communications Director, he made it clear that there was a need to begin reconnecting the party with ordinary voters.
