Tales of the reconstruction
Article Abstract:
Composer Esa-Pekka Salonen is not certain why he was not satisfied with his work 'Giro' when it was first performed in 1981. He feels that his new version of this work, which is to be performed at the Last Night of the Proms on Sep 11, 1999, is fuller than the original version. He believes that his music is now much more visceral than it was in the past, with his emphasis having shifted away from composers such as Boulez and Berio, although he continues to admire them.
