Are home-school deals just pie in the sky?
Article Abstract:
It will become a legal requirement from Sep 2000 for all UK schools to introduce a home-school agreement. It can be argued that this is a flawed policy. Many parents do not attend school meetings, and will therefore not participate in the drawing up of the home-school agreement to which they are supposed to adhere. Headteachers and governors find it difficult to see what purpose a home-school agreement will serve if they cannot sanction parents in any way for failing to comply with it.

The price of being a parent
Article Abstract:
Bringing up a child can be extremely expensive. Indeed, average spending on a child between birth and the age of 17 in the UK is 57 pounds sterling a week, according to a survey for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Food accounts for a large proportion of the cost of bringing up a child, followed by clothes and Christmas and birthday presents. Experts advise that it is wise for parents to take professional advice about the costs of bringing up children.
