The PEP is dead - long live the PEP
Article Abstract:
Personal equity plans (PEPs) have been replaced by the UK government's new individual savings account, but the PEP market remains active. It is no longer possible to purchase a PEP, but investors can still transfer their PEP allowance between providers. Some observers believe that the inability to add to PEPs will boost the PEP transfer market. PEP holders may wish to switch between funds and fund providers if their investment needs change, if they seek greater diversification of their investments or if they find a better managed PEP.

Making plans for growth
Article Abstract:
Those who are likely to need funds in the near future to invest in their business or to move house should keep this money available in a building society account, rather than investing it, even though building societies currently do not offer very high rates of interest. Stockmarket-based investments will require a commitment of at least five years. If money is required to invest in a business, then it is not wise to pay back part of a mortgage, as this would take money away from the business.

Cash or questions
Article Abstract:
Most people do not require expert advice about straightforward investment decisions, but may wish to seek some assistance and information. However, in cases of a significant change in an individual's circumstances, such as being made redundant, more detailed financial advice is required. It may be appropriate to seek the help of an independent financial adviser, although charges for such advice can be quite high. Discount brokers do not usually give advice, and their fees are therefore lower.
