At last, an end to feudalism
Article Abstract:
There has been considerable tension between local people and incomer landlords in the Scottish Highlands. However, relations between the two sides are set to change as a result of the UK government's decision to make extensive amendments to land ownership in Scotland. These measures will abolish the right of landlords to impose harsh conditions on local people, and local people will gain the right to purchase land that is put up for sale by absentee or neglectful landlords. At present, half of Scotland is owned by 500 people, most of whom are not Scots.
