Tenor Alfredo Kraus studied industrial engineering before deciding to become a singer. He studied in Barcelona, Spain, and Madrid, Spain, and then moved to Milan, Italy. He made his operatic debut in 1956 in 'Rigoletto' in Cairo, Egypt. He made his debut at Covent Garden, London, England, in 1959 in Donizetti's 'Lucia di Lammermoor,' while his debut at La Scala, Milan, Italy, came in 1960. He made a large number of recordings, including all his favourite roles in Italian and French operas.

Stephen Reiss
Article Abstract:
Arts administrator and art dealer Stephen Reiss studied at the Chelsea School of Art. He was an intelligence officer during the second world war, and was them made responsible for the cultural rehabilitation of Lubeck, Germany, and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He subsequently taught and worked for an art dealer in London, England, and during this time staged a small exhibition in Aldeburgh, England. He was General Manager of the Aldeburgh Festival from 1955 to 1971.

Giuseppe Sinopoli
Article Abstract:
Composer and conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli was born in Venice, Italy, in 1946. He studied medicine at Padua University, Italy, and composition at the Venice Conservatory. He founded the Bruno Maderna Ensemble for contemporary music in 1975.
