At last ... scientists have found the cure for the common cold. Or is it something to be sneezed at?
Article Abstract:
There have been mixed reactions to claims by scientists at Hofstra University in New York state that the action on the nose and throat of the rhinovirus, which is responsible for around 60% of all colds, can be inhibited by a zinc-based compound which can be taken in lozenge form. The scientists themselves are careful to point out that this discovery does not mean that a cold can be prevented, but simply that its duration can be reduced. However, in commercial terms finding a cure for the common cold could be extremely important.

Your implant will diagnose you now: a vision of medicine in the 21st century
Article Abstract:
Significant changes will take place in medicine during the first half of the 21st century, according to 'Clinical Futures,' an analysis published by the British Medical Journal publishing group. New developments could include an instant diagnostic device using near-infrared light to penetrate deep layers of body tissue. It will become more common for patients to take care of their own health, and people who monitor their own health closely could benefit from lower premiums or no claims bonuses on healthcare insurance.

Consumers win in the price wars
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) has carried out a study of price fixing, leading the government to recommend the end of recommended retail prices for certain products. These include electrical goods such as TV sets and fridges. A previous survey by the Consumers' Association found identical prices, and stores claimed they could lose dealerships if discounts were used. Meanwhile the end of price fixing for books is likely to be followed by competition between internet booksellers.
