The truth about Dempster and my other 'so-called rivals.'

Article Abstract:

It can be argued that what appears in the columns written by newspaper diarists is generally less interesting than the process by which information finds a place in these columns. Newspaper diarists have a distinct style, allowing them to remain calm and extract detailed personal information even from people who are very hostile. The most prominent newspaper diarist in the UK is Nigel Dempster, whose column started in 1974. He has a deputy, three reporters and a sub-editor.
