Battle of the airwaves
Article Abstract:
By 2004, 50% of the UK population is projected to have a mobile phone, compared with just under 17% at present, projects Orange chief executive, Hans Snook. However, growing demand for mobile phones is going hand in hand with an increasing number of complaints, particularly concerning the many incentives offered by firms and high costs. Potential buyers are at the centre of the battle for business currently being waged between mobile phone service providers, phone equipment providers and handset suppliers and the upshot is that customers are becoming confused by the sheer number and complex nature of current offers. Constant price wars have also made shopping around tougher for customers because the deals on offer are forever changing. Even so, customers are benefiting because prices are declining and competition among leading players, Orange, Vodafone, One 2 One and Cellnet, is increasing as the differences in the services and prices offered become blurred.

BA tries to scupper rivals with 2m cheap flights
Article Abstract:
The UK airline British Airways (BA), has announced that it is to sell some 2mn seats on its flights at highly reduced prices. The decision is a direct attack upon low fare rivals, such as Ryanair and EasyJet, and is intended to do them some harm. AB Airlines and Debonair, two much smaller low-fare carriers are also under threat from BA's strategy. The reasoning behind the decision is that BA suffered a lot during the World Cup period, and in an attempt to win custom the summer sale was proposed. The sale will be for flights to European countries. The sale goes on until midnight on August 09 1998. Flights can be taken to the end of November 1998 and returns before December 30 1998.
