Bacon, banter and the Virgin boys
Article Abstract:
Making fun of people has proved a successful approach for Jonathan Coleman and Russell Johnson, presenters of Virgin Radio's breakfast show. They have won the Sony Radio award for Best Breakfast Show in Britain and the silver award for Best Breakfast Show in the World from the New York Radio Society. They have many targets for their piercing humour, but this seems to endear them to listeners, rather than alienate the audience. They introduced a new format, two men chatting together, and have found that it works very well.

Irish paradise, pity about the songs
Article Abstract:
The 1993 Eurovision Song Contest was hosted by Millstreet, south-west Ireland, which has a population of 1,500. The town has no problems of unemployment, violence, pollution or emigration. All houses and pubs were decorated for the occasion and every musical competitor was adopted by a shop. Mr Noel C Duggan, who owns the largest family business in the town, offered his indoor show-jumping arena, the biggest in the country, to Radio Telefis Eireann free of charge.

Songs that won the war
Article Abstract:
The battle between pop groups Blur and Oasis to head the UK singles charts has been surrounded by a great deal of media hype. They are backed by two of the largest record companies, and released their singles on the same day, determined to finally show which group is the more popular. The battle between the groups has received particular attention because it has come in the middle of the summer, when there is little other news to attract the media's attention.
