Battle for Los Angeles
Article Abstract:
There are around 400 gangs and an estimated 62,000 gang members in Los Angeles, CA. The city authorities have begun to attempt to tackle this problem by using anti-gang injuctions, court orders effectively exposing named people to a form of martial law within their own neighbourhoods. This approach is popular with middle-class voters, but civil liberties activists feel that the injunctions represent an infringement of the basic rights of assembly and freedom of movement.
