Bauhaus? not in our house, thank you
Article Abstract:
Sir Gordon Russell, furniture-maker, died in 1980. May 1992 brings the anniversary of his birth, celebrated with two exhibitions at the Gordon Russell showrooms and the Design Council, London. His traditional Cotswold furniture-making is excellent quality but of unsophisticated style. The American company Steelcase Strafor now owns Russell's company and specialises in office furniture. The old-fashioned craftsmen still produce expensive items for the British taste but modern designer-makers are introducing some avant-garde design.

Cedric Brown, fat cat in the dog house
Article Abstract:
Cedric Brown, the chief executive of British Gas, has attracted extensive media criticism since it was revealed that he was awarded a 900% salary increase. He is disliked for his extravagent lifestyle, with his large neo-Georgian home being regarded as vulgar by the middle and upper classes and with jealousy by the lower classes. Many people overlook the fact that he is simply living in a style which would they would choose themselves if they could afford to.
