Best friends hanged in bizarre pact
Article Abstract:
A number of theories have been put forward regarding the deaths of Philip Henry and Barry Henderson, both aged 20, in Aberdeen, Scotland. The two men had been friends for many years and both worked as furniture removers. They were found hanging from a tree from two ropes tied together. It is possible that one of them jumped deliberately from the tree, while the other died more by accident. Their deaths have highlighted fears that suicidal signs among young men are being overlooked.

Crossing the borderline
Article Abstract:
The English in Scotland do not come together in a clear expatriate network, preferring to be directly involved with the Scots. Indeed, many are very enthusiastic about life in Scotland, pointing out that the Scots are very friendly and polite. In most cases, the English in Scotland are moderate Scottish nationalists, being generally pro-Scottish parliament but opposed to independence. They do not feel threatened by nationalism, as it is more anti-metropolitan than anti-English.

Welcome to Aberdeen, Britain's saddest city
Article Abstract:
New research indicates that up to one in five of the 125,000 residents of Aberdeen, Scotland, will suffer Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during winter 1999 to 2000. Symptoms of SAD, which is caused by light deprivation, include weight gain, lethargy, loss of sex drive and the need for more sleep. Aberdeen is on a more northerly latitude than Moscow, Russia, and in winter receives little natural light. Many local people seem to be depressed, especially in winter.
