Vodafone's 37bn pounds sterling AirTouch coup shows mobiles can rule the world

Vodafone AirTouch, the new company formed by Vodafone's 37 billion pounds sterling purchase of AirTouch, will see earnings before tax, depreciation and amortization increase by more than 20% a year in the period to 2004, according to Vodafone Chief Executive Chris Gent. The merged operation has 23 million subscribers and market capitalization of 68 billion pounds sterling. It will have very strong purchasing power with manufacturers of network equipment and mobile handsets.
