BT and MCI rethink terms of 18bn pounds sterling merger
Article Abstract:
The planned $29 billion merger of British Telecom and MCI has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission. However, the two companies have now announced that they are reviewing the price of their merger, and it is possible that the deal may not go ahead after all. It is possible that lawyers are concerned that the two companies are misleading the financial markets, following media indications that the deal would go ahead according to the terms already set down.

Rival bid shoots down 13bn pounds sterling BT/MCI deal
Article Abstract:
US telecommunications operator WorldCom has made a hostile $30 billion takeover bid for MCI. This calls into question the planned $22 billion merger of MCI with British Telecom (BT). It now seems likely that the merger of MCI with BT will only go ahead if the former company prefers to accept BT's offer because it includes around $4 billion in cash. BT has reacted very calmly to the prospect of the deal not going ahead.
