Blood money out of a stone
Article Abstract:
Swiss banks have agreed a $1.25 billion settlement with the descendants of Holocaust victims and Holocaust survivors. The banks are believed to have retained the money and property of around 44,000 Jews after the end of World War II. Survivor Estelle Sapir, one of the litigants in the US lawsuit against the banks, claims she does not want reparations, only what is rightfully hers. The money will allow elderly survivors to live in peace, says Sapir. Sapir had documents showing the funds deposited by her father, who was killed in Magdanek concentration camp. The bank refused to hand over the funds without her father's death certificate.
