Bring me sunshine
Article Abstract:
Planting annuals can greatly improve a garden's appearance, giving it almost instant colour. It is possible to purchase many different annuals from garden centres, but it is also enjoyable to grow them from seed. Among the best annuals are zinnias and sunflowers. It is also worth considering the annual grass Lagurus ovatus 'Bunny Tails' and blue Salvia farinacea. Planting annuals in groups in combination with more permanent features can look very effective.

The growing pains of Florence Fennel
Article Abstract:
There can be a number of difficulties associated with growing Florence fennel. It is important to buy the most appropriate seed, looking for varieties which have been developed to resist early bolting. Even with these seeds, fennel tends to bolt, forming flowers before the edible bulbs at the base have swelled. It is best to sow in mid Jun for an autumn crop, as earlier sowings are more likely to bolt.
