Brokers must mend their ways to survive
Article Abstract:
It is vital that stockbrokers focus on establishing what private investors really require, rather than merely competing to provide the cheapest, fastest dealing service. The mystique that traditionally surrounded stockbroking has now almost completely disappeared, and commission charges have fallen rapidly. Everybody now has access to the information required for buying and selling shares, and it is possible to make instant decisions without the assistance of a stockbroker. New stockbroking services generally insist that investors use nominee accounts, which distances investors from the companies in which they hold shares.
