But is it Mozart?
Article Abstract:
The Experiments in Musical Intelligence computer program developed by US composer and academic David Cope is capable of breaking down and programming the procedures used by a particular composer. This makes it possible to produce music which appears identical in style to existing works by that composer. However, Cope still relies on his own abilities as a composer to identify the most suitable version from among the permutations produced by the computer. He hopes that the program will inspire today's composers, rather than simply looking at the music of the past.

Old before their time
Article Abstract:
Period instruments have ocassionally been used by composers in the 19th and 20th centuries, but they have generally been seen as lacking the qualities of modern instruments. However, the harpsichord has been enjoying a revival for many years, and some modern composers now have a much more positive attitude to the possibilities of early music ensembles. There may now be a revival of period instruments just at the point when most observers believed that electronic music would be the way forward.
