Cash in your dormant deposits
Article Abstract:
There are around 60 million bank accounts held by 38 million people in the UK, according to the British Bankers' Association. Building societies have around 11 million members and operate an estimated 37 million savings accounts. The total amount of money held in dormant accounts is very large, but each dormant account generally only contains a relatively modest sum. Indeed, the costs of checking up on a dormant account can frequently exceed the amount held in it. Banks and building societies are now seeking to make it easier to trace dormant accounts, as the costs of administering these accounts are rising.

Survive Christmas without a financial hangover
Article Abstract:
Using a credit card can be a very good way of coping with the financial pressure of Christmas. Indeed, research indicates that many people have now acknowledged the advantages of using a credit card as a temporary source of borrowing. However, there can be some problems associated with using credit cards in this way. It is important to be aware of how to gain the maximum period of interest-free credit, spending just after the date when the monthly card statement is prepared. Late payment can also be extremely expensive.

So you want to buy your home with a clear conscience?
Article Abstract:
Those seeking an ethical mortgage should be aware that most banks lend to governments and a wide range of companies, while mutual building societies do not. Building societies are obliged to limit their core business to taking deposits from and lending to individuals, and this means that they do not become involved in areas of business which many ethical investors would wish to avoid. There are a number of ethically oriented mutual societies, including the Catholic Building Society and the Ecology Building Society.
