Cecil Hewett
Article Abstract:
Craftsman and historian of carpentry Cecil Hewett gained an early appreciation of timber-framed buildings from his father, a woodworker. He undertook National Service between 1944 and 1948, and then trained in drawing, painting, silversmithing and cabinetmaking at the former Chelmsford School of Art and at University College, Swansea, Wales. He taught in schools for 19 years, and in 1972 took up employment with the Greater London Council Historic Buildings Division.

Greece's slaughtered Jews
Article Abstract:
The nazi destruction of the Greek Jewish community is not well known. The community in Salonika included Jews speaking Ladino, a dialect of Spanish which had orginated in the Iberian penisula from where they had been expelled in the 1500s. The Nazis deported almost 50,000 people in early 1943 and synagogues were destroyed. Jewish homes were looted and taken over by Nazis. Greece was not an anti-Semitic country and there was some resistance.

Priapus laughed
Article Abstract:
A man described how medication-induced temporary impotence was not only frightening, but also underscored the reticence men have in discussing that problem. Even after the condition was normalized, the thought of it being a practical joke by the god of procreation, Priapus, did not seem so funny.
