Charity commissioners: a suitable case for retirement
Article Abstract:
The UK Charity Commission is to investigate redefining charitable purposes. This exercise aims to produce greater flexibility in the definition of a charity. This approach may bring benefits, but it is also possible to argue that the government should consider withdrawing from supervision of charities altogether. Any organization wishing to seek public support should incorporate as a not-for-profit entity under company law, being supervised by the Office of Fair Trading.
