Charles Lang
Article Abstract:
Cinematographer Charles Lang studied law at the University of Southern California for a short time before finding employment as a laboratory assistant at the Realart Studio in 1919. He became involved in camera work, and worked on several films with director John Cromwell. He was favoured by female stars, and photographed Mae West in 'She Done Him Wrong' and Marlene Dietrich in 'Desire' and 'Angel.' He first worked in colour with the 1941 film 'Shepherd of the Hills.'

John Stears
Article Abstract:
Special effects designer John Stears studied at Harrow College of Art and Southall Technical School. He worked as a draughtsman with the Air Ministry, then served as a dispatch rider during his National Service. He constructed scale models of building projects for an architectural firm, and was subsequently signed to a contract by the Rank Organisation. He made contributions to films including 'A Night to Remember' and 'The Guns of Navarone.'

Henri Alekan
Article Abstract:
Cinematographer Henri Alekan was born in Paris, France, in 1909. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire des Arts et Metiers and the Institut d'Optique, and began in films in 1927 as an assistant cameraman.
