Saul Steinberg
Article Abstract:
Cartoonist and artist Saul Steinberg studied psychology in Bucharest, Romania, and architecture in Milan, Italy, graduating as a Doctor of Architecture in 1940. He then fled to Portugal before travelling to the Dominican Republic. His first cartoon appeared in the New Yorker in 1941, and he was sponsored by this magazine to come to New York, NY, in 1942. He obtained an ensign's commission to serve in the Navy, and travelled to China and India, from where he sent reportage sketches back to the New Yorker. He did a total of 85 covers and 642 drawings for the New Yorker.

John Glashan
Article Abstract:
Cartoonist and painter John Glashan studied painting at Glasgow School of Art. He moved to London, England, in the early 1950s, and took up cartooning when he failed to make a living by portrait painting. His work appeared in Lilliput magazine, and he was then taken on by Queen. He obtained a regular half page in the Observer magazine in 1978. In later life, he concentrated on landscape painting, exhibiting at the Francis Kyle Gallery and the Fine Art Society.

Hank Ketcham
Article Abstract:
Cartoonist Hank Ketcham was born in Seattle, WA, in 1920. He began his working life at Universal Studios, and was then taken on by Disney, working on 'Pinocchio' and 'Fantasia.' He was responsible for the character Dennis the Menace, which he devised in 1951.
