Christie wins but faces 115,000 pounds sterling costs
Article Abstract:
Olympic gold medal sprinter Linford Christie has been awarded 40,000 pounds sterling in damages after winning his libel case against former armed robber John McVicar, who claimed that Christie's success was due to taking banned drugs. However, Christie will have to pay around 115,000 pounds sterling in costs to Johnsons News Ltd, distributor of the magazine in which McVicar's article appeared, because he refused a higher out-of-court settlement than the damages.
