On familial terms
Article Abstract:
It is important for parents to realize that they cannot always be perfect in the way they deal with their children. Instead, they should focus on being a 'good enough' parent. This involves being flexible but consistent, recognizing the individuality of each child and valuing each child's role in the family. Parents should permit children to be children, and should be authoritative but not authoritarian. It is important for parents to avoid becoming trapped into feeling that they must always be in control of their children.

Do your children hate the sight of each other?
Article Abstract:
Parents are often very distressed when their children do not get on well together. However, it is important to realise that this is perfectly normal, and that the parents are not to blame. Children are more likely to be friendly to each other if the relationship with their parents is not good, while sibling rivalry indicates that the children believe that it is worth competing for their parents' affections. The age gap between the children seems to have little bearing on whether they will get on well with each other.
