Church traditionalists speak of distress and schism

Article Abstract:

The Church of England decision to ordain women priests means that some priests will leave and possibly become Roman Catholic, some traditionalists will leave the Church of England as they considered it to have become a sect, and others would leave because they could not recognise the authority of their bishop. Whole parishes could move into the Roman Catholic Church as has happened in the US and Australia. The Women Against the Ordination of Women group met at the Church Union Headquarters to discuss their future.

In the name of God, why not women?

Article Abstract:

The subject of women's ordination in the Church of England has caused all sorts of strange objections to be raised. Some suggest that it would lead to homosexual marriages in church, some feel tradition must be maintained and some think all Christendom should agree before action can be taken. A rational God would not refuse representation by half of mankind. Possible results of not allowing the ordination of women have been overlooked. Men are not morally or spiritually superior.

Article Abstract:

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food John Selwyn Gummer resigned from the Church of England General Synod because he did not approve of its decision to accept women priests. His father was a trained Baptist minister who became an evangelical vicar in the Church of England. John Gummer was a committed Anglo-Catholic by the time he attended Selwyn College Cambridge. He was chairman of the Cambridge University Conservative Association and president of the union.
