Compromises must be made over the decommissioning of arms in order to start talks
Article Abstract:
The peace process in Northern Ireland has encountered a number of difficulties, and has now reached a very sensitive stage. The main issue of conflict has been decommissioning, with the UK government continuing to insist that all-party talks cannot go ahead before decommissioning takes place. It is important to realise that the stumbling block here is not really the weapons themselves, but the fear and distrust that result from the retention of weapons.

Dialogue of the paramilitaries
Article Abstract:
Talks which build up confidence and trust on all sides will be the only way to bring about a lasting peace settlement in Northern Ireland. It is vital that political structures are established which fully reflect the wishes of the people, and for this to be achieved negotiations must involve all parties. Sinn Fein is very committed to this process, and regrets the fact that little progress has yet been made towards a peace settlement.
