Article Abstract:

New X-ray technology offers systems for screening a truck or container for drugs or explosives in three minutes. The systems guide containers through an inspection tunnel by conveyor. They can inspect 20% of containers at any seaport. They require 6-10 million electronvolts of energy. Other techniques are vapour sampling by mass spectrometer and pulsed fast neutron analysis (PFNA) such as the Science Applications International Corporation's technique which provides a three-dimensional map of a container's contents.
