Corruption on an Olympian scale
Article Abstract:
Rome, Italy, is seeking to host the 2004 Olympic Games despite problems with transportation and telecommunications infrastructure. The project has been criticised by Ernesto Galli della Loggia, who has also criticised the Olympic movement as a whole. In addition to infrastructure problems, organizing international events in Rome has often involved corruption, misuse of taxes and inefficiency. Critics of the project argue that funds would be better spent elsewhere.
