Corruption's bad for your wealth
Article Abstract:
There is relatively little corruption in Europe by world standards. This means that revelations of corruption within the European Commission are particularly damaging. It is likely that the forthcoming investigation of corruption within the European Commission will reveal that there was no simple, single structural failure. Instead, corruption was probably fuelled by detailed auditing failures and failure to take responsibility for money regarded as belonging to others. In a period of economic growth in Europe, it was possible to absorb a small amount of corruption, but this will not continue to be the case.

Article Abstract:

There are a number of significant challenges associated with current demographic trends, including the rapid ageing of the population, especially in developed countries. This trend is also beginning to emerge in developing countries, bringing a change in economic needs and in values.

A cold wind of change is set to blow across Europe
Article Abstract:
The German government's decision to reduce the size of the state is attracting considerable controversy. Most importantly, this policy seems to go against the commitment by the Social Democrats not to take money away from pensioners to fund cuts in company taxation, and it also breaks the implicit commitment that the state will reliably fund social services through the 21st century. Developments in Germany can be seen as a test case for the whole of continental Europe.
