Chemists' and household goods
Article Abstract:
The household goods sector in the UK experienced a slump in Aug 1998, with sales falling by 1.3% on a month-by-month basis and increasing by a mere 2.6% on a year-by-year basis. The growing number of job losses is behind this unfavorable picture of consumer spending although a number of other factors may also be at work. In contrast, the chemists' good sector did not go through the same predicament as the household goods market because it is traditionally unperturbed by variations in consumer spending capabilities. Price trends, outlet performance and outlook for the two sectors are also discussed.
