Curse of rising house prices
Article Abstract:
The price of consumer goods is stable, or even falling, in most developed countries. In contrast, the price of assets such as homes and land has risen to extremely high levels. It is hard to understand why central banks and finance ministers welcome price stability in the shops, but seem almost proud that prices are rising on the stock exchange. It is possible that the current sharp rise in house and share prices will come to be seen as almost as risky economically as the inflation in the price of consumer goods seen in the past.

There's no quick fix to the world's economic crisis - but don't panic
Article Abstract:
It is clear that there is no really easy or effective way of addressing the world's current economic problems. A coordinated interest rate cut would be effective initially, but could only be used once. The only other solution is to find the right combination of financial support and policy changes for each country, but this would take a considerable length of time. It is also important to realize that there is no reason why a global economic catastrophe should take place.

Makings of the money crisis
Article Abstract:
The fluctuating state of the world economy can be explained by the stage in the cyclical recession, disinflation and the development of European financial integration occurring simultaneously. A small incident can start a chain reaction such as Finland's loss of the Soviet export market which led to the 75% interest rate in Sweden. The markets trust the Bundesbank more than any UK financial authority so no policy change can help.
