DTC debated
Article Abstract:
The Jan 27, 1999 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Assn focused on the possible effects of direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising of prescription drugs which has raised consumer demand for certain products. Alan Holmer, president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, contends that DTC advertising provides a connection between patients and doctors. On the other hand, Matthew Hollon believes that the ads create pressure on the doctors to prescribe them for patients who have seen the ads.
