Hidden agenda
Article Abstract:
Films which deal with Irish history have always attracted considerable controversy, often being accused of distortion and inaccuracy. Indeed, it is very hard for film-makers not to be forced into making a film which gives only very trite messages regarding the undesirability of political violence. Most recently, criticism has focused on Neil Jordan's film 'Michael Collins.' This was initially well received, but has since been accused of making a number of omissions.

The Beat of a novel drum
Article Abstract:
The job of the writer is to entertain and to educate, according to novelist Caleb Carr. He is very opposed to confessional books, believing that writers must universalize their experience. He plans his novels extremely carefully, researching for nine months, and this leaves him with little time for his personal life. He had a troubled childhood, and this means that he has no difficulties in facing the terrors that children sometimes undergo.
