Dear Santa, which instrument is for me?
Article Abstract:
There are many important issues to take into account when deciding which musical instrument your child should learn. Choosing the wrong instrument can have very serious consequences, possibly deterring the child from learning to play an instrument at all. Before beginning to learn an instrument, a child must be reading and writing capably and must have mental energy to spare. Percussion instruments are well suited to children with a great deal of energy, while the piano suits children who are good at mental arithmetic and can be self-sufficient.

A most peculiar practice
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the children who are most successful in learning a musical instrument are those who practice a great deal and have strong parental support. Parents should make the effort to supervise practice sessions closely, bearing in mind that regular, short practice sessions are preferable to irregular, long ones. Children must be praised and encouraged, and may benefit from being allowed to improvise. Parents must be aware that there can be many challenges associated with their child learning a musical instrument.

The halls are not alive with the sound of music
Article Abstract:
The UK's national curriculum, introduced in 1988, listed music as one of the seven foundation subjects, a move which was welcomed by many people involved in music education. However, the range and standard of music education still varies greatly across the country, and in some schools there is almost no music education at all. Teachers are becoming more confident about music, especially in primary schools, but there are still many who require greater support.
