Demands with menaces
Article Abstract:
Secretaries and personal assistants must deal with large numbers of staff, and will inevitably come into contact with problem colleagues from time to time. It is important for secretaries and personal assistants to establish the sort of behaviour in others that causes them distress and what elements in their own behaviour may cause distress to others. It may initially be best to do nothing about a problem colleague. If this proves ineffective, then it is worth reconsidering the problem. A further step may involve persuading the person to change.

To make tea or not to make tea: that is the question
Article Abstract:
Tension in the office environment is becoming increasingly common as employees are placed under greater stress and become concerned about their job security. Some companies are now beginning to recognize that office politics can create significant problems, and are therefore seeking to recruit the sort of people who will work well together.

Life begins at 40? Not for secretaries, it doesn't
Article Abstract:
Many UK companies are unwilling to employ older secretaries, even though research consistently indicates that older people often have better literacy and numeracy skills and that a mixed workforce can lead to lower levels of absenteeism and staff turnover. Older secretaries need to show willingness to be flexible, especially in relation to salary, and should take care to constantly update their skills. They also need to cultivate a positive, attractive image in order to avoid falling victim to ageism.
