Desmond Olivier Dingle, artistic director of the National Theatre of Brent, cannot see the funny side of his productions, which always have a very small budget, according to actor Patrick Barlow, who is appearing in 'Love Upon the Throne: Charles and Diana - The True Story,' the theatre's latest production. He emphasizes that this is a play about a relationship, and that it does not refer at all to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. He feels that Dingle would not understand at all if people found this play, in which Diana, Princess of Wales, is played by a man, offensive.

Wilde at heart

Many one-man shows are very poor, according to actor Simon Callow. However, this has not stopped him performing a solo tribute to Oscar Wilde. The show, entitled 'The Importance of Being Oscar,' is based on the writings of Oscar Wilde and was performed by Irish actor Michael MacLiammoir in the period 1960-1975. It was closely identified with MacLaimmoir, and almost completely vanished after his death. Callow believes that the show's style, which is rich and varied, is extremely attractive.

Actor and playwright Eric Bogosian aims to write in a sketch-like way. This is reflected in his latest play, 'Bitter Sauce,' which was inspired by a Shakespearian sonnet. He does not aim to write very complex characters, but rather to write the characters who exist inside his head. He does not hesitate to be confrontational, and has been extremely critical of the national psyche in the US. His most recent role is as Daniel Ellsberg in 'A Bright Shining Lie,' directed by Terry George.
