Do not let trackers drive you crackers
Article Abstract:
Tracker funds attract investors because of their low charges. They can also perform better than actively managed funds, which have higher charges, simply by following indexes. Index trackers still do not perform as well as the best actively managed funds. Trackers vary according to which index they track and how they track it. Some funds seek to replicate the index by including all stocks, and there are different styles of sampling indexes. Investors have to decide whether they believe that large firms will perform well, or smaller firms, and select their index accordingly.

Welcome to the real world
Article Abstract:
The average debt of the 300,000 students leaving colleges and universities in the UK in Jun 1999 will be 6,000 pounds sterling, according to the National Union of Students. In many cases, these debts will rise before repayments start to be made. However, banks are eager to win the business of those who have just graduated and are beginning work, as they believe that they will subsequently become high earners. Each summer, banks offer special packages designed to attract new graduates.

Brokers 'winning' in motor quote wars
Article Abstract:
There has been a significant rise in car insurance premiums in the UK. This can be attributed to the fact that many insurance companies saw very low profits in 1998 and to the disappearance of Guardian Royal Exchange and Eagle Star, two of the lower-cost insurers. It is likely that premiums will continue to rise, although rates are strongly determined by the driver's individual circumstances. In some cases, direct-by-phone sellers do not necessarily offer the best deal.
