Don't let divorce drain your coffers
Article Abstract:
Divorce tends to involve inflamed passions, but there is a need to deal with financial affairs in a way that minimises costs, and this means that the parties themselves should agree on a settlement. Life assurance and pensions are key areas, and good independent advice is needed on pensions. Wills are not invalidated by separations though they are invalidated by divorce. Life policies should generally be continued, and assigned if necessary. Independent advice is needed, and decisions should not be made hastily, since this could be expensive.

How to make your pension pay
Article Abstract:
Nearly a million people in the United Kingdom took out personal pension plans in 1997. There are questions that customers should ask pension providers, and they include levels of charges, and how good a fund's investment performance is. The most important questions are what the size of the fund will be on retirement, and when retirement will be possible. Occupational schemes do not allow an annuity provider to be selected, but most providers of pensions allow customers to buy annuities where they wish.

Babies need lots of love and financial investment
Article Abstract:
Having children involves financial responsibilities, and financial planning should start with protection such as family income benefit. Life insurance alone will not provide protection in the event of job loss, and life cover becomes less important as children achieve greater independence, though partners may need protection. Savings are also important for education, including the cost of university tuition. Unit trust savings plans may be suitable for this purpose.
