Dorothy Stickney

Actress Dorothy Stickney suffered from corneal ulcers as a child, but was determined to be an actress. She trained at North Western Dramatic School in Minneapolis, but it took her several years to become established. She made her Broadway debut in 'The Squall' in 1926, and was to attract acclaim for her roles in 'The Front Page,' 'The Way of the World' and 'Another Language.' She appeared on Broadway in 1961 in 'A Lovely Light,' a one-woman show based on the poems and letters of Edna St Vincent Millay, and in 1973 appeared on Broadway in the musical 'Pippin.'

Paul Jarrico

Screenwriter and film producer Paul Jarrico began submitting original screen stories to film studios shortly after graduating from UCLA, where he had joined the Communist Party. He worked for Columbia Pictures and RKO, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the 1941 production 'Tom, Dick and Harry.' He came into conflict with the House Committee on Un-American Activities, and was not free to work abroad until 1958.

Article Abstract:
Screenwriter Dorothy Kingsley began her career in writing by writing radio comedy for Bob Hope and for ventriloquist Edgar Bergen. Her first success in screenwriting was with RKO's 1941 film 'Look Who's Laughing.' She was placed under contract by MGM producer Arthur Freed, with her first assignment being additional dialogue for the musical 'Girl Crazy.' She was a driving force behind the success of the 1944 film 'Bathing Beauty.'
