Drugs giants flex muscles as SA tries to cut health bill
Article Abstract:
The South African government has attracted controversy with plans to force multinational pharmaceutical companies to cut their prices. There is particular concern among multinational pharmaceutical companies about the possibility of South Africa purchasing drugs from countries where they are already sold cheaper. US ambassador James Joseph claims that importing patented drugs would go against universally recognized principles of patent protection.
