In 1994, some 6.45 billion pounds sterling was spent on electrical and electronic goods, representing a rise of 16% on 1990. The market is dominated by brown and white goods, which together account for 80% of expenditure. In 1994, computer and video games made up 11% of the total, although growth in this area has reached 75%. An overview of the retail market for electrical and electronic goods is given, including details of economic and demographic influences, profiles of major players, consumer trends and forecasts for the future.

The United Kingdom retail market for greetings cards, books and stationery is expected to grow 18% overall to 4.011 billion pounds sterling by 1999 from 3.436 billion pounds sterling in 1995. The stationery sector should reach 672.7 million pounds sterling from 640 million pounds sterling; the greetings cards sector should reach 1.159 billion pounds sterling from 947 million pounds sterling; the books sector should reach 2.18 billion pounds sterling from 1.849 billion pounds sterling. The 1990-1995 retail market is examined.
