Endowment mortgages were very popular in the UK at the end of the 1980s and in the early 1990s. However, it has subsequently become clear that these mortgages are not necessarily a good investment. Older endowments will probably produce a reasonable return, but those who hold newer ones may wish to consider cashing them in.
