Quackery or good sense?
Article Abstract:
A committee headed by first civil service commissioner Sir Michael Bett is currently investigating the pay and conditions of staff in higher education in the UK. A number of opposing groups have expressed concern about what this committee's report, due to be published in Apr 1999, may contain. The Association of University Teachers fears that the committee may recommend job evaluation linked with a single salary structure, rather than an independent pay review body. The National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education is less strongly opposed to job evaluation.
