Euro strikes fear of poverty into Bavaria
Article Abstract:
Many Bavarians do not believe German politicians who claim that a single European currency will bring economic benefits. They feel that the euro will not be as strong as the German mark, particularly if monetary union includes countries such as Italy. Towns resent having to reduce their spending on facilities such as kindergartens in order for the central government to meet the Maastricht criteria, and ordinary people feel that they are being made to carry a disproportionate burden of preparing for monetary union.

The British have been led to believe only they are sceptical about Europe ...
Article Abstract:
The British have been given the impression that they are the only ones who have reservations about Europe. This is not the case, as Euroscepticism is actually present across continental Europe in various forms. The debate about Europe is not as confrontational in other European countries as in the UK, but opinion polls indicate that many Europeans are concerned about latest moves towards European integration. In Sweden, for example, only 22% of people believe that membership of the European Union is a good thing.
